Pupils donate 113 kilos of food to Cirencester Food Bank

Pupils at Rendcomb College Junior School have donated more than 113 kilos of food this year to the Cirencester Food Bank as part of their Harvest Festival.

Rendcomb College’s Harvest Festival took place last monthinSt Peter’s Church, Rendcomb, and was led by the school’s Chaplain, Bob Edy.

The pupils’ donations were given to two worthy causes, Cirencester Food Bank and Cirencester Housing for Young People.

Cirencester Food Bank received a total donation of 113.65 kilos of food which has since been used to help families in crisis in the Cirencester area to put food on the table. In total, schools, churches and other groups donated an incredible 4.2 tonnes of food.

After leading the service, Reverend Edy said: “ It is important that children are given this opportunity to reflect on the meaning behind the Harvest Festival. The pupils may not understand just how much all their fantastic donations will mean to the less fortunate out there.”

The Food Bank are currently appealing for donations of Christmas related items that have a long shelf life (chocolates, Christmas puddings, tinned deserts etc) and all donations would go to help those in need at such a special time.
