The most outstanding institutions that the independent sector has to offer have been recognised in the shortlist for the 2021 Times Educational Supplement (TES) Independent School Awards.
It has been revealed that Rendcomb College has been shortlisted for the Boarding School of the Year award and Whole-school Community Initiative of the Year.
To be shortlisted for one award is a great achievement but, to be nominated twice is absolutely fantastic news for Rendcomb College.
There are around 450 boarding schools in the UK competing for the title of Boarding School of the year, with only 8 being shortlisted. Additionally, the award for Whole-school Community Initiative of the Year is open to around 2,500 UK independent schools, again with only 8 shortlisted.
The College’s continuing dedication to develop “Thoughtful, Adventurous and Academically Ambitious” pupils over the past 12 months puts them in great stead for The Boarding School of the Year award.
Their work in providing meals and supplies to people in need during the Covid-19 pandemic, which has since been adopted nationwide by the College’s catering supplier, embodies the College’s philanthropic ethos, stemming right back to the College’s founding principles established by Noel Wills in 1920.
TES editor Jon Severs said: “After a difficult year for all schools, it is an honour to celebrate the TES Independent School awards, not only to celebrate excellent practice but to ensure that practice is shared far and wide.
We received an unparalleled number of entries this year, which is a testament to the great work all have done during the pandemic. The schools that have been shortlisted should be proud - it's a remarkable achievement"
Due to current protocols, the awards night cannot be held in person this year as had been planned. For the very first time, TES Independent School Awards winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony on Friday 30 April 2021.
Rob Jones, Head of College, stated that "This is fantastic news for our school. It is a wonderful reflection of all at the College for all their hard work and innovation. Boarding and community spirit are at the heart of what we are about at Rendcomb. I couldn't be more pleased!"
