TED-Ed is a youth and education initiative set up by the TED Talks organisation. Using 5 minute animated videos the TED ED series covers everything from art and design, through to philosophy and religion. 

The videos feature the words and ideas of educators and are brought to life by professional animators. 

At the end of each short video, you can take a 10 question quiz to help you think a little deeper about the content you’ve just watched. 

There’s also the option to learn more about your chosen subject and have open discussions about your learning.

You can set up your own account and track your progress as you complete new lessons. 

Schoolistics

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the company has put together a carefully selected range of free home learning resource packs and practice books are designed to help your child get the most from school and support their test and exam preparation.

Every resource provides engaging, reliable practice for all key skills, whatever your child’s age or stage.

You simply select your child’s learning stage, Early Years, Key Stage 1, Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper Key Stage 2 – and download your free home learning pack. 

BBC Bitesize and BBC Teach

Ages: 5 - 15

The BBC Bitesize and BBC Teach websites are home to thousands of free curriculum-mapped videos, arranged by age-group and subject.

You can now access regular daily lessons from BBC Bitesize in English, maths and other core subjects, and in special programmes broadcast on BBC iPlayer and BBC Red Button.

They share their weekly schedules on BBC Teach, on BBC Bitesize, social media and via their newsletter, at least a week in advance so you can stay up to date.

All Bitesize Daily lessons have been created by teachers and other educational experts and feature a mix of videos, animations, practice activities, quizzes and games, all designed to suit specific learning ages.

Older students can also find programmes that support GCSE and A-level curricula on BBC Four. Including broadcast versions of various Shakespeare plays, reruns of classic drama adaptations, and some of their award-winning science and nature documentaries.

Quizlet

Price: Free

Age range: All

Quizlet uses digital flashcards, written exercises and tests, to affirm students' knowledge of various topics within English, Science and Maths and the arts, using ready-made learning packs. Or, if you wanted to teach something a little more niche, like how to bake your favourite cake or famous people from Cheltenham, you can create your own learning pack. 

What makes Quizlet stand out from all the other online learning platforms is they use AI to identify areas where a student is struggling. They take that information and use it to tailor its courses to suit your abilities, very much like a real-life tutor.
 

PE With Joe

Price: Free

Age range: All

Every morning Monday to Friday at 9am, Joe Wicks, a.k.a The Body Coach,  hosts free workouts aimed at kids live on his YouTube channel. You don't need any equipment,  you just tune in for a 30-minute workout. 

This is a great way for everyone in your household to get active. And if you miss the live video, don’t worry because they are all saved on his Youtube channel so catch up whenever suits you.

Joe makes each work out lots fun by adding spot the difference games and dressing up to keep everyone engaged.

Code.org

Age range: All

Code.org is supporting teachers, students, and families by sharing resources to help students learn computer science at home. 

Starting on 25 March, Code.org launched an exciting free Code Break program. CODE Break is a live, weekly interactive classroom where the team teaches children at home while school is closed. They also set a weekly challenge to engage students of all abilities, even those without computers.

Roblox

Age range: 4+

Roblox is a social collection of online multiplayer games, powered by a global community of over two million developers.

The Roblox’s mission is to bring the world together through play. They enable anyone to imagine, create, and have fun with friends as they explore millions of immersive 3D experiences.

As a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Roblox have added more curriculum based educational games to its teaching resources. Featuring lessons on coding, game design and how to create multiplayer maps.
 

Primary Engineer

Ages: 5 to 16 years

Primary Engineer is home to the ‘STEM by Stealth®’ educational approach that brings engineering and engineers into primary classrooms and curricula. 

The team at Primary Engineer and Ford of Britain have come together to launch two new free online challenges designed to inspire the next generation of young engineers. 

The first is called the Leaders Award, which encourages children to think about the kind of problems they would solve if they were an engineer.  

The programme gives children of all ages the opportunity to interview engineers from NASA, Facebook, Ford and more about their careers before coming up with engineering solutions to everyday problems. 

The second challenge is called Statwars , which is aimed at primary and secondary school age children to teach climate change by developing mathematics, numeracy and data literacy skills. 

Children can enjoy the programmes at home with help from their parents and each one comes with a host of downloadable resources including videos direct from engineers.

Lingvist

Free until 31st July

Ages: No lower or upper limit but more suited to confident readers

In the wake of the lock down, Lingvist has opened up its learning platforms so you can start to learn a foreign language online for free. 

Linguist uses interactive games, challenges and tasks to teach grammar and vocabulary in German, French, Russia or Spanish. 

You can track your progress and use scheduled video calls to run through grammar rules and practice pronunciation for clarification and conversation practice. 

The entire platform is free until July 31, but you need to sign up via Lingvist Classroom and add your child as a student. If you sign up via the standard Lingvist login, your free trial will end after 14 days.
